Jill's Fall Favorites - and I'm with her on number three.


Nothing beats a blazing fireplace that first chilly night of the season. I’m not sure who enjoys the event more—me or my cats.

No other television show or movie does fall better than Gilmore Girls.


I love transitioning to my favorite sweater weather wardrobe staples: cashmere, jeans, and booties.


The best part of apple picking is leaving with a box of warm, apple cider donuts.


Fall kicks off the holiday season in my house. Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas, GAC’s Great American Christmas, and a slew of holiday themed books are my entertainment go-to’s November 1st through January 1st.

Lights flashed in the side view mirror. Another car parked behind them, but snow blocked all visibility through the back window. Boots crunching through snow announced the hulking figure before he appeared at the door. A scarf and hat covered most of the stranger’s face, and only a pair of emerald-green eyes peered in.


Scarlett inched down the window a crack. The possibility of this person being a deranged lunatic couldn’t be overlooked.


“Scarlett?” The man stepped back and tugged down the scarf.


She knew that face and opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t find a word. This day just kept getting better. Those eyes should have been the first clue, but never in her wildest dreams did she expect to see him again. The blur of memories racing through her mind dropped a throat-constricting concoction of confusion, hurt, and vile hope on her chest. “Wes.”


“What are you doing here? Aren’t you a little far from home?” A line formed between his eyebrows.


Clarice leaned forward to get a better glimpse of their potential knight in shining armor.


“More than a little.” Coherent thoughts took shape in the form of questions and accusations. Every fiber in her being burned at the thought of asking him for help, but alternative options were few and far between. Who knew how long before roadside assistance arrived? Fine, maybe he’d get her out of this mess, but making small talk didn’t need to factor into the exchange.

Jill Piscitello is a teacher, author, and an avid fan of multiple literary genres. Although she divides her reading hours among several books at a time, a lighthearted story offering an escape from the real world can always be found on her nightstand.


A native of New England, Jill lives with her family and three well-loved cats. When not planning lessons or reading and writing, she can be found spending time with her family, trying out new restaurants, traveling, and going on light hikes.

Review of Vicious Creatures

“Killing people silences the screaming in my head.”

 

Chloe West’s father trained her to kill on command, and she was the best in the business.

Ten years ago, she was supposed to infiltrate a paranormal academy, kill a few faculty members and students, and make it look like an accident. Then her daddy could step in and buy the property for less than it's worth.

Instead, the head teacher enchanted her into being  gentle-natured and passive. All she wants is to be a hairdresser. And she has no memory of her murderous past.

When a friendly witch breaks the spell, her memory rushes back. No longer a sweet-natured young woman her friends know and love, she doesn't want to see judgment in their eyes. Rather than face them, she flees.

 

Now her ambition is to rid he world of her billionaire father and make amends for all the pain and mayhem her killer persona created.

 

Then there’s Dwayne. Never forget Dwayne. He’s a killer goose with psychotic tendencies and Chloe’s best friend.

I loved the storytelling and breadth of imagination in this book.

​

 It’s hard not to identify with Chloe as she takes out various bad guys and befriends other paranormal creatures.

 

As mentioned, I have a soft spot for Dwayne. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want a killer goose for a best friend? Then there are vampires and a strategist who helped train her. He tells life's a chessboard, and while she might be a knight, she could be the queen. 

 

The medical research behind the murders is fascinating. If the police ever check Ms Hignett’s computer history, she could be in trouble.

 

This book, and the rest of the series, took over my life. Unable to put i down, I until the small hours then stated the next in series. It wasn’t until I finished the complete Waif in the Wilds series that I realised that although complete in itself, it's is part of a huge story arc.

 

Now I’m on a mission to read the connected series. I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves a slow building paranormal romance set in one of the best imaginary worlds I’ve ever visited. Best of all, a gentle humour runs through every word.
